First there was the test, then the snow.
My test went well. My meeting with my writer went well. Jeremy took me to get donuts, and even on a few hours of sleep, Friday was going pretty normal.
Honestly, I didn’t think it was going to snow. At all. I was so very surprised when I had no choice but to go to the grocery store to buy my groceries and encountered every frantic Athenian shopping for rations and supplies. When it normally takes me 45 minutes tops to run through and get groceries, it took me 2 HOURS. Anyone who knows me knows I love food and I love to cook, so naturally grocery shopping is something I look forward to. My zen moment. The snow definitely ruined that for me.
When I was leaving the store, it really started to come down. I’m from the beach, so it was really, well, scary for me.
I complain about the cold a lot, but lately I feel like I’ve developed a thick skin to it. Which is good, because I’ll probably land somewhere up yonder in the North where the land is a cold as most of the peoples’ serious business loving hearts. Anyway.
Before I could get the groceries up in the cabinets, there were a few inches on the ground. I was going to have a few friends over the next day, so I started doing a little prebaking and cleaning, aiming to head out a couple hours later.
I don’t know how to drive in snow. Let’s just leave it at that.
After I failed at leaving the apartment, it hit me. I was “snowed in.” Tori was staying in Atlanta, other friends realized how dangerous it was to drive, and the sun was falling, soon to be masking any patches of ice.
That was a little on the scary side to me. Not saying a blizzard would have come about and really snowed me in, but my inability to drive in snow compounded with my absolute fear of driving in snow, pretty much trapped me. I didn’t like that feeling.
I got over that pretty fast though and had fun with the snow. There’s something magical about seeing the ordinary place you live transformed by a pristine layer of snow. Cars and buildings were wrapped in it, trees and bushes frosted softly and naturally. It was really beautiful.
Saturday I failed at baking completely, but had a great time with some good friends at the movies and just chilling. I normally don’t entertain here, for various reasons, but it was really nice to have everyone in my home for a change. I enjoyed it a lot. We didn’t once turn on the TV, and people were over from about 7 to 1. That’s one good conversation, which is something I love about all of my friends.
